About Avicenna Research InstitutePDFPrint

Avicenna Research Institute (ARI) with the aim of achieving technical knowledge in the field of biotechnology through performing research projects and clinical and laboratory research, has started its activities since 1998.

ARI consists of Reproductive Biotechnology (RBRC), Monoclonal Antibody (MARC), Nanobiotechnology (NBRC) research centers besides Avicenna Health Technology Incubator and Avicenna Fertility Center.

Reproductive Biotechnology Research Center is composed of Embryology and Andrology, Reproductive Genetics and Biotechnology, Reproductive Immunobiology, Tissue Engineering, Biolaw & Ethics groups and each year holds several seminars and specialized workshops and provides the latest scientific results from research in each specialized area. One of its main objectives is to attract the attention of universities and research centers to interdisciplinary aspects of any specific issues.
The research center, in order to facilitate providing the therapeutic services and  applying the results of research in the field of infertility, established Avicenna Fertility Center with seven clinics of  infertility treatment, recurrent miscarriage, replacement therapies, sexual health, pelvic pain, endometriosis and advanced laparoscopy, breast, maternal, fetal, neonatal health.
Monoclonal Antibody Research Center has started its activities from March, 2001 and has 4 research groups of Hybridoma, Antibody-Antigen Engineering, Immunochemistry and Immunology. The nanotechnology research is one of the priorities of research and practice in the country and consequently, Nanobiotechnology Research Center’s main focus is discovering the new biomarkers for cancer and the use of nanostructures in diagnosing and treatment of cancer. The research groups of the center include nanotechnology, recombinant technology, and nanobiosynthesis and their activity was started in 2006.
Eleven groups of the research center with its experienced team consisting of 18 types of expertise in biology, biotechnology and molecular and clinical medicine have provided the ground for scientific and training activities.
Based on the potentials, equipment and specialized personnel of Avicenna Research Institute, the commissioning agreement has been reached for establishing Avicenna Incubator in 2009 and the Incubator initiated its activity under the technical, scientific and economic support of ARI since 2010. In 2014, the name of Avicenna Incubator changed to Avicenna Health Technology Incubator based on the developments in its activities and the agreement of Development Council. The activities of the Incubator are in the field of reproductive biotechnology, monoclonal antibodies and biological nanotechnology.  The units established in the center can deploy the services and equipment from Reproductive Biotechnology (RBRC), Monoclonal Antibody (MARC), Nanobiotechnology (NBRC) research centers besides Avicenna Fertility Center.  By providing specialized consultations in business and interaction with scholars and experienced individuals, the process for communicating with idea developers and the financial supporters is facilitated and the startup companies are supported by commercializing their products, hence their strategic planning would be underpinned.
The most important developmental goals of Avicenna Research Institute are the implementation of basic, applied and therapeutic research plans in the field of new biotechnology and “ reproduction and cancer”, the follow-up for research projects till the final stage, evaluating, identifying and handling the research needs in diagnostic and therapeutic sections in the field of new biotechnology, providing necessary equipment adaptable with the research programs and projects, optimal communication with experts and innovators in research and scientific centers, providing the possibility for recruiting master and doctorial students and encouraging them to do the research thesis, using the latest research results and scientific advances for developmental purposes of ARI, and establishing the scientific and applied training courses and graduate programs in collaboration with universities.
Active and constructive communication with other institutions and academic and research organizations, scientific planning, development and implementation of master and doctoral courses in the field of new technologies in collaboration with training centers inside and outside the country, meeting the criteria of SID (Scientific Information Database), doing announcements, publication of books, magazines, scientific and research newsletters and the organization of conferences, symposia and workshops and regional, national and international congresses are other objectives and activities of ARI.
