Avicenna Research Institute (ARI) with the aim of achievingtechnical knowledge in the field of biotechnology throughperforming research projects and clinical and laboratory research, has started its activities since 1998.
ARI consists of Reproductive Biotechnology (RBRC), MonoclonalAntibody (MARC), Nanobiotechnology (NBRC) research centers besidesAvicenna Health Technology Incubator and Avicenna FertilityCenter.
Reproductive Biotechnology Research Center is composed ofEmbryology and Andrology, Reproductive Genetics and Biotechnology,Reproductive Immunobiology, Tissue Engineering, Biolaw & Ethicsgroups and each year holds several seminars and specializedworkshops and provides the latest scientific results from researchin each specialized area. One of its main objectives is to attractthe attention of universities and research centers tointerdisciplinary aspects of any specific issues.
The research center, in order to facilitate providing thetherapeutic services and applying the results of research inthe field of infertility, established Avicenna Fertility Centerwith seven clinics of infertility treatment, recurrentmiscarriage, replacement therapies, sexual health, pelvic pain, endometriosis and advanced laparoscopy, breast, maternal, fetal, neonatal health.
Monoclonal Antibody Research Center has started its activities fromMarch, 2001 and has 4 research groups of Hybridoma,Antibody-Antigen Engineering, Immunochemistry and Immunology. Thenanotechnology research is one of the priorities of research andpractice in the country and consequently, NanobiotechnologyResearch Center’s main focus is discovering the new biomarkers forcancer and the use of nanostructures in diagnosing and treatment ofcancer. The research groups of the center include nanotechnology, recombinant technology, and nanobiosynthesis and their activity wasstarted in 2006.
Eleven groups of the research center with its experienced teamconsisting of 18 types of expertise in biology, biotechnology andmolecular and clinical medicine have provided the ground forscientific and training activities.
Based on the potentials, equipment and specialized personnel ofAvicenna Research Institute, the commissioning agreement has beenreached for establishing Avicenna Incubator in 2009 and theIncubator initiated its activity under the technical, scientificand economic support of ARI since 2010. In 2014, the name ofAvicenna Incubator changed to Avicenna Health Technology Incubatorbased on the developments in its activities and the agreement ofDevelopment Council. The activities of the Incubator are in thefield of reproductive biotechnology, monoclonal antibodies andbiological nanotechnology. The units established in thecenter can deploy the services and equipment from ReproductiveBiotechnology (RBRC), Monoclonal Antibody (MARC), Nanobiotechnology(NBRC) research centers besides Avicenna Fertility Center. Byproviding specialized consultations in business and interactionwith scholars and experienced individuals, the process forcommunicating with idea developers and the financial supporters isfacilitated and the startup companies are supported bycommercializing their products, hence their strategic planningwould be underpinned.
The most important developmental goals of Avicenna ResearchInstitute are the implementation of basic, applied and therapeuticresearch plans in the field of new biotechnology and “ reproductionand cancer”, the follow-up for research projects till the finalstage, evaluating, identifying and handling the research needs indiagnostic and therapeutic sections in the field of newbiotechnology, providing necessary equipment adaptable with theresearch programs and projects, optimal communication with expertsand innovators in research and scientific centers, providing thepossibility for recruiting master and doctorial students andencouraging them to do the research thesis, using the latestresearch results and scientific advances for developmental purposesof ARI, and establishing the scientific and applied trainingcourses and graduate programs in collaboration withuniversities.
Active and constructive communication with other institutions andacademic and research organizations, scientific planning, development and implementation of master and doctoral courses inthe field of new technologies in collaboration with trainingcenters inside and outside the country, meeting the criteria of SID(Scientific Information Database), doing announcements, publicationof books, magazines, scientific and research newsletters and theorganization of conferences, symposia and workshops and regional, national and international congresses are other objectives andactivities of ARI.
